Animals in Bloom

Animals have started to become a bit of a recurring theme for me but I wanted to involve flowers in my work and I thought they would look quite quirky with animals.
I love these old Victorian paintings of cats, they're so naive but that's what I like about them.

These were the inspirational image for my project and I wanted to see how the animals would look with flowers as part of their bodies.
Here are a few drawings I did to experiment.

flowers flowers flowers!

I was lucky enough to get a Canon slr camera for my 21st birthday so for my personal project I took the chance to take lots of photos of flowers :)

:)

My finished work at uni for the Where do you run to? project, if you like furry animals and sweets then you may just like this. Photos from the exhibition to come :)

After finishing all my work I decided to tidy my flat and realised that my desk looked really sad. So i decided to put up some of my work like in my uni space. I had a look through old work and have realised that my work from one project to another is really quite different. Recently Ive seen myself take more of an interest in illustration and am really going to try and push this in further work. Hopefully the little reminders on the wall will help me along when I'm sitting sewing away!

Where do you run to?

For our latest project at uni we have been asked to organise an exhibition and work to displayed within it.
Our chosen title is "Where do you run to?"
we could interpret this how we wanted. I decided to look at the idea of escape and where I would go and a place I would create if I could.
I looked at children's stories for inspiration, like Charlie and the chocolate factory and where the wild things are and these are a few little experiments that I have been working on for the project.

Making cards and having a 'whale' of a time...

I haven't put up a post in a while one of the reasons being that I was busy making greetings cards and artefact's for a project at Uni :)
if you like cute animals then I hope you like these.

I explored making wrapping paper and gift bags and some little felt key rings too

Ive realised that I cant seem to avoid using animals in my projects so expect more cute fluffy creatures in the future!

take me home...

how could you resist! I saw this in a magazine and as a cat lover myself had to put it up on my blog

old work

looking at old work I realise I have a lot of working styles and I don't want to give up any of them :( maybe Ill just stick to a bit of everything, ha!
I have a thing about keeping all of my work, sketchbooks mean a lot to me so I always try to make them like a story.
I was sorting out work from last year and wanted to put up a few things from my embroidery project sketchbook inspired by postcards from the trip to Paris, of 1920s and female icons...

The hand embroidery below was inspired by Jenny Hart whose work I have very much fallen in love with.

monkeys monkeys monkeys

I wanted to put up a bit more from my primate project at uni, experiments, and parts of my drawing work too :) I think I'm starting to find my style after quite some time. I'm not one to dress in bright colours and patterns but its something that I've found comes through in my work. I love making my work fun, humorous and playful but something that can be appreciated at all ages.

whitstable

in the summer i went on a little holiday to whitstable, plenty of charity shops (brilliant!) but the boyfriend didnt enjoy looking round them repeatedly.
while i was there, this caught my eye, you cant really say its inspirational but i think everybody should have one...cue stuffed cat...
int' he cute

Its been a long time comin'

I have been so preoccupied with uni projects that I have abandoned the blog. Im now going to try and blog everyday with things that Ive found a liked and also bits of my work.

Over the past 4 weeks I've been working on little monkeys to relate to my summer project(you can see some on the header at the top).
Here's a few of the finished ones :)

cloud filling stitch... or lack of!

I have spent quite a while today trying to find how people have used the hand embroidery cloud filling stitch on, well, anything, and I cannot find any!

I'm not sure whether I'm keen yet, I think it looks a bit like pink fishnet tights which is not so good!

at the moment...

I am working on my personal project just before I leave for summer. I love working with peoples faces and free machine embroidery.

here is a simple applique' piece of my brother and my Grandad, this makes the project more personal for me....

New to this

Hello,
My name is Charlotte, I'm 20 and I'm studying textiles for fashion and interiors at Bath spa university.
I have always wanted to make a blog but have never got around to it, so have decided to make one now just before the summer gets started.
This is just going to be a place where I can talk about the work I'm doing and see if anybody likes it :)

Blog out!
